JBN Livestock is owned and operated by Jim and Jeannine Bockwoldt. We have two daughters, Bethany and Nicole. Our ranch is 18 miles east and north of Rapid City, SD.

Our first cows were Angus cows that we ran with Jeannine’s cousins, the Millars, in St. Onge, SD. This was formerly the Lyla and Bernie Stevens Hereford Ranch. After several years it became obvious that the Hereford disposition was a trait that worked better for us, so we advanced our registered Hereford program and phased out the Angus cattle.

Foundation cattle early on were purchased from the Mrnaks in Bowman, ND. We crossed the exceptional females with Baker Hereford bulls in Rapid City, SD. We also used AI to improve our genetics. MF Dom 359 0587 3194 from Ray Murphy in Brownsville, TX, was one of our early sires used AI that greatly improved our genetics.

In 1997, my good friends, Jim and Jeff Baker and I (Jim) were going through their bull pen at Baker Herefords. I couldn’t take my eyes off of KB L1 Domino 714. I bought him that day and he became the cornerstone to what our herd is today.

We sure owe a special thanks to Wayne Mrnak and the Mrnak family for the great early genetics provided by their program, also a big thank you to the Baker family for their great cattle and friendship. We have owned some incredible bulls together with the Bakers; Arrow CL1 1127, KB L1 Domino 218, CL1 Domino 417, KB L1 Domino 509R, KB L1 Domino 521R, and JA L1 Domino 6002S.

At JBN we are proud of the fact that we manage all aspects of the ranch by ourselves without hired help. We feel that every sire used needs to come from a great cow family. We put emphasis on calving ease without compromising growth, fertility, and carcass traits. We require that our cattle have sound udders, feet, and a docile disposition. We love being a part of the Hereford community.
